Artis Magistra (Mistress of Art) is a collaborative effort between two artists, Ellen and Carol. Ellen designs and produces these lovely fabrics, and Carol helps them find new homes. Initially the fabrics start out as industrial-sized bolts of silk and silk blends which are then hand dyed and cut for high-end garments. These elegant garments are found in galleries across the US, but what becomes of the leftovers? They can be found here, where they are sorted, weighed and bagged to be sent off in all directions around the globe.
Please keep in mind that while the fabrics are new, they may have imperfections on them, such as dye splotches, and most are irregular sizes and cuts. They are excellent for patchwork and piecing, and we encourage you to explore the realms of creativity. Be bold! Be adventurous! And remember, "omnia mutantur, nihil interit."
